History
Albany, Wyoming is a quiet, unincorporated community with historical ties to the western expansion of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its early growth was fueled by ranching, logging, and its proximity to the Union Pacific Railroad, which made it a natural center for industry and transport in the region. Surrounded by the rich resources of what would become the Medicine Bow National Forest, the town thrived during this era of frontier development.
Established in 1902, the Medicine Bow National Forest was part of a broader national effort to conserve public lands. Its name comes from the nearby Medicine Bow Mountains, which hold cultural significance for Native American tribes like the Arapaho and Cheyenne, who traditionally crafted ceremonial bows from the area's mountain mahogany.
As the local ranching and logging industries slowed in the mid-20th century, Albany evolved into a destination for outdoor recreation. Today, it serves as a beloved basecamp for snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, and hunting throughout the Snowy Range and the vast wilderness of the surrounding forest.
Location
Albany, Wyoming, a hidden gem nestled in the Laramie Range, offers an abundance of outdoor recreation possibilities throughout the year. While hiking, fishing, and camping are popular in the warmer months, Albany comes alive in the winter as a premier destination for snowmobiling. The area boasts an extensive network of groomed trails, providing hundreds of miles of riding through deep snow. The consistent and abundant snowfall in the region ensures exceptional conditions for snowmobiling enthusiasts, drawing visitors from across the country. Whether you're a seasoned rider or new to the sport, the awesome snow in the southeastern region of Wyoming makes an unforgettable experience.

Epic history, abundant wildlife, and endless recreation surround Hidden Springs Ranch, located between Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming. With 120 acres with a small year-round stream, and a cabin already in place, Hidden Springs Ranch well-positioned as a multi-purpose recreation outpost, yet convenient to two of Wyoming's largest communities.
The hills around Hidden Springs Ranch were alive with the sound of railroad construction in 1867-68 with the arrival of the nation's first transcontinental line, the Union Pacific, that reached its high point of 8247 feet just four miles west of the location of Hidden Springs Ranch. Today a large pyramid structure marks the high point, named the Ames Monument in memory of Oakes and Oliver Ames, Union Pacific financiers.
Hidden Springs Ranch lies at about 8000 feet, and the surrounding hills are a mix of grasslands, limber pine, aspen groves, and picturesque granite rock outcroppings. The most significant feature of this property is its small permanent stream, for the valley of Hidden Springs Ranch is a magnet for wildlife. Thick riparian vegetation borders the stream, sheltering songbirds of many varieties, and healthy herds of mule deer and pronghorn frequent the valley as a water source. From time to time, elk and even moose can also be seen on the property.
The mule deer and pronghorn on the ranch are natural quarries for big game hunters, and the property borders an additional 160 acres of BLM, adding to its privacy. Hunting is a prime feature here, but fishing is available as well, for the wild brook trout that inhabit a small pond on the creek.
In addition to the hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing on the ranch itself, just four or five miles north rises the famed Vedauwoo recreation area, renowned for its massive exposed granite rock formations, popular with climbers, and a large network of hiking, horseback, and mountain biking trails. Nearby Curt Gowdy State Park offers reservoir fishing, boating, and camping.
A log cabin has been built at Hidden Springs Ranch, which is about 1000 square feet and includes sleeping space for 4 to 6 persons. Solar power and a generator exist at the cabin, and power has been extended to it as well, but is not yet connected.
Only three or four miles south of Interstate 80, Hidden Springs Ranch is easily accessible to both Laramie, 25 miles to the west, and Cheyenne, 40 miles to the east. Even the major metropolitan area of Denver is only about two hours' driving time away.
Hidden Springs Ranch is an ideal retreat for those wanting moderate acreage with hunting and fishing, but a location that is not painfully distant from civilization. When the rush and noise of the city get to be too much, escape to this retreat called Hidden Springs where your nearest neighbors will be pronghorns and coyotes!

Entry to the ranch is controlled by electronic security gates, providing a managed point of access for property owners and their guests. Power is available on the property, giving buyers a substantial utility advantage when planning future development such as a residence, cabin, shop, or seasonal structure. The land sits on a broad, flat grassy bench that creates an open landscape with long range western views. From the property, you can see the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest and surrounding mountain ranges. The topography is level enough that future construction or land improvement should require relatively minimal grading compared to more rugged areas. The flatness also allows for easy travel across the property for land management, recreation, or scouting.Within the boundaries of Wild Horse Ranch is Lake Hattie, a well known water feature in the region. Property owners have access to the lake for fishing and non motorized boating. The lake includes a usable boat ramp within the community. These features add opportunities for on site recreation without the need to travel off the ranch. In addition to lake access, Wild Horse Ranch maintains common areas for picnics, informal gatherings, or community events. These spaces provide optional opportunities for social interaction while preserving the privacy of individually owned parcels. The community operates under covenants and an established homeowners association. These covenants guide building standards, land use parameters, and general upkeep to maintain consistency across the ranch. The HOA fee is 701 dollars annually. While this fee supports road maintenance, gate systems, and community areas, the covenants help ensure that the appearance and quality of the ranch environment are preserved over time. Buyers should review all governing documents to confirm that allowable uses align with their long term plans.Because the property already has power available and is located within an organized community, development considerations such as planning for utilities, siting structures, or establishing year round or seasonal living arrangements may be simplified compared to raw off grid tracts without infrastructure. Other utilities such as well and septic would be pursued through standard Albany County permitting processes. The grassy terrain allows for flexible placement of improvements across the acreage. The surrounding region is known for outdoor recreation, including fishing, hiking, hunting, and general access to the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest. While the property itself lies within a private community, the broader landscape supports an active outdoor lifestyle. Wildlife may be present in the area, and the open nature of the terrain allows for broad visibility across the land.Location is a significant advantage of this parcel. The property is approximately 18 miles from the Laramie Regional Airport, making it accessible for owners who travel. It is also about 24 miles from downtown Laramie, where residents can find groceries, fuel, hardware, restaurants, medical services, the University of Wyoming, and other amenities. This proximity provides a balance between privacy inside a gated ranch community and convenient access to necessary services. The combination of gated entry, on site power, covenants, community lake access, and open land creates a property option suited for buyers who want acreage with managed access and recreational potential. The flat grassy terrain supports multiple land use strategies ranging from residential development to light recreation, extended stays, or long term land holding. Whether used as a home site, a weekend retreat, or a base for regional outdoor activities, the property provides a structured environment with community features and nearby conveniences.Overall, this 40 acre parcel offers a factual blend of accessible infrastructure, mountain views, recreational amenities within the community, and proximity to Laramie. The property provides an opportunity for buyers seeking acreage in Albany County within a private ranch setting where covenants and an active HOA help guide the long term stewardship of the area.Contact Land Specialist Drue Meyer at 307-421-9221 or Drue.meyer@whitetailproperties.com

7,455 total acres on the Colorado and Wyoming border
Outstanding big game hunting for elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and moose
Ranch house, guest cabin, indoor riding arena, shop, and more
Productive cattle operation with strong water rights
Just over two hours from Denver and 30 minutes from Laramie
Straddling the Colorado and Wyoming border like a well fitting saddle, Bull Mountain Cattle Company contains some of the choicest big game habitat in two states. Well connected to many square miles of public land, Bull Mountain Cattle Company is a very private piece of a huge ecosystem that has produced flourishing herds of elk, mule deer, pronghorn, and moose, all of which present hunting opportunities of the highest quality. Although big game hunting is a major asset at Bull Mountain Cattle Company, a thriving cattle operation is its bread and butter, and its operational facilities are second to none. Investors looking for a major hunting property supported by cattle will be impressed with the many opportunities in this decidedly untamed border country.
Only 30 miles south of Laramie, Wyoming, and 75 miles from the burgeoning metropolis of Fort Collins, Colorado, Bull Mountain Cattle Company strikes the perfect balance of close enough yet far enough away as an accessible retreat. In total, the ranch controls 7,455 acres, including 3,430 deeded acres, 3,385 leased BLM acres, and 640 leased State Trust acres. Situated at elevations ranging from 7,300 to 8,800 feet on the northern flank of 10,000 foot Bull Mountain, Bull Mountain Cattle Company encompasses nearly twelve square miles of grasslands, aspen groves, and riparian valleys. Over 400 acres can be irrigated to support the cattle operation, while big game ranges freely through two states across the remainder of the property.
Eligible for five landowner applications for elk and mule deer in Colorado and two landowner tags each for deer, antelope, and elk in Wyoming, Bull Mountain Cattle Company will satisfy the big game hunter who prefers not to hunt in a crowd. Sharing 11 miles of boundary with public lands, there is plenty of room to roam both on and off the property. In addition to the aforementioned species, mountain lion, black bear, and turkey add variety to the hunting opportunities in these remarkably productive borderlands.
As a fishery, the ranch's water resources are just waiting for thoughtful development for Bull Mountain Cattle Company to truly blossom. Seven miles of small mountain streams traverse the ranch, some of which contain wild brook trout, and all of which could support ponds capable of producing trophy trout. For river fishing, the Big Laramie River runs just west of the ranch and offers miles of superb brown and rainbow trout fishing on public lands in both Colorado and Wyoming.
Truly a turnkey property, Bull Mountain Cattle Company is ready for occupancy. A very comfortable, newly remodeled 3,800 square foot home with four bedrooms and five baths overlooks a creek and the irrigated meadows. The well maintained ranching facilities include a large metal horse barn and equipment building, an indoor riding arena, a log horse barn, and a veterinary room. Water rights are sufficient to irrigate up to 400 acres, more than adequate to support the existing cow calf operation. Also included on Bull Mountain Cattle Company are a three bedroom ranch manager's home and a rustic hunting cabin along Shell Creek.
Bull Mountain Cattle Company lies solidly at the center of year round recreational opportunities. Hunting and fishing are mainstays, but exploring the ranch and surrounding Medicine Bow and Roosevelt National Forests via OHV or horseback in the summer or by snowmobile, cross country skis, or snowshoes in the winter can keep you fascinated for years. The Snowy Range Ski Area is located about 90 minutes away and offers downhill skiing and snowboarding without the crowds typical of these sports.
Less than 30 miles from Laramie and just over an hour from Fort Collins, both university towns, Bull Mountain Cattle Company is within easy year round reach of a plethora of cultural opportunities. The rest of the world can be reached via Denver International Airport, which is also just over two hours from the ranch.
For those seeking a western ranch where work coveralls are more at home than skinny jeans, we at Harrigan Land Company can heartily recommend Bull Mountain Cattle Company. As a cattle and hunting property, in many ways it is the finest place in two states, all rolled into one memorable package.
The ranch is currently operated in conjunction with a Colorado State grazing lease; however, continuation of that lease is subject to State Land Board approval.
