Rancho Estrella is the quintessential South Texas dream ranch, providing just about every combination of desirable traits we look for in high end properties. LOCATION Located in southern Jim Hogg County, south of Hebbronville, Texas, is Rancho Estrella. Corpus Christi is 145 miles to the northeast, San Antonio is 196 miles to the north, and McAllen is 82 miles to the southeast. The property is located on paved Highway 649 in Guerra, approximately 40 miles south of Hebbronville. TOPOGRAPHY, RANGELAND & HABITAT The ranch is comprised of open grasslands with natural and manipulated mottes and lanes installed for running dogs and quail rigs. Outside of the quail country, there is a vast expanse of high end mixed brush habitat promoting trophy whitetails and supporting the ranch’s robust exotic herd. The soils on this ranch are rich, with 84% comprised of Copita fine sandy loam. Additionally, the mixed brush on the ranch is almost limitless in its desirability. There are over 20 great brush species on the ranch that provide exceptional protein for the deer herd. Brasil, Granjeno, lime prickly ash, lotebush, blackbrush, guajillo, Texas persimmon, and guayacon are just a few of the desirables that thrive on the ranch. Outside of the native habitat, there are several large fenced food plots planted in mixes for big game, with others allocated for dove. WILDLIFE The ranch is high fenced and has a well managed whitetail deer herd, consistently harvesting top end trophies. The property is enrolled in TPWD’s MLD program to extend the management of the herd, as well as the season length. Although 190” deer are top of the top for most any ranch, there is no doubt that, with continued management, you will see an increase in the trophy quality on this ranch. There is also a great turkey population which allows for spring attraction and fun while the wildflowers are in full bloom. While deer and exotic hunting is premier on Rancho Estrella, the quail hunting can also be fantastic. Abundant grasslands with both natural and manipulated mottes allow for those prime days in the field on the back of a quail rig. The owner has managed a high end exotic population that the guests truly love to pursue throughout the year. The list of exotic species is high and can be provided with inquiry. IMPROVEMENTS Rancho Estrella was built to entertain both private families and large numbers of guests. The compound is well designed and thoughtfully planned, allowing multiple parties to enjoy the property without overlap. The Estrella compound feels like a mini town, with a centrally located town square. It is hard to explain how well this design lays out, and the flow is amazing. There is a beautiful owner’s home with a pool and lounging pavilion. This home includes a private master suite, three additional bedrooms with private baths, a kitchen, and private living and dining areas for seclusion. Adjacent to the private home are three private buildings with living quarters. Two of the buildings have three master suites, and the last has two private master suites. To further entertain around the compound is a trophy room/dining room, several fire pits, a commercial kitchen, and another bar/living room. Lastly, there is the Alamo. The Alamo is a barn/game room built with a façade that looks like the front of the historic Alamo in San Antonio. Not far from the compound is a five-stand range with a pavilion for hosting shooting events and lunches. There are 2 large barns for parking equipment, cleaning game, storage, along with two walk-in coolers and two walk-in freezers. There are also three mobile homes for housing staff. WATER Surface water on this ranch includes multiple ponds and lakes, with the largest being four acres. Salado Creek runs through the middle of the ranch and tends to hold water in several locations most of the year. Groundwater here is excellent, and high-volume wells can be drilled here with the potential for irrigation of a dove field or filling lakes. The ranch sits over the Gulf Coast Aquifer, and most wells are 300’ – 400’ deep. Currently, there are 8 water wells on the ranch, with multiple water troughs set up for both cattle and wildlife.
